Abstract:
Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) is an optical interferometric method for acquisition of acoustic and seismic signals. It uses laser pulses that travel along the length of a fibre-optic cable and backscatter as they encounter small inconsistencies in the fibre. Impinging seismic waves cause strain on the cable, resulting in differences in phase of the backscattered light. Interest in DAS has increased significantly in the past decade as it is particularly suited for VSP acquisitions, including for permanent reservoir monitoring.
