Abstract:

For an almost completely unexplored basin, the Lander Trough has the 'correct address' containing source and reservoir rocks of the same age as those known in surrounding petroliferous areas, like the Amadeus and Georgina basins. The basin needs at least one deep stratigraphic test in the Lander Trough to ascertain the Palaeozoic stratigraphy, source and reservoir distribution, and determine the existence of prospective sub-Wiso Basin strata. The CambroOrdovician section in stratigraphic holes in the Lander Trough of the Wiso Basin, Northern Territory, was sampled to assess petroleum source rocks, maturation, sedimentology and palaeontology, and existing conodont collections reassessed for age dating and conodont colour alteration measurements. These data have implications for basin history, hydrocarbon potential and sedimentary iron ores.
