Abstract:
The discovery of the Blina Field, after a long period of disappointment, has proved the potential of the CanningBasin to contain commercial sized oil accumulations. Although not large, the Blina Field has shown that geological conditions for generation and entrapment of significant hydrocarbon volumes have occurred in the basin. The similarity of the Blina oil to that recovered in Meda #1 approximately 40 km to the northwest, shows that these conditions apply over a substantial area. Reservoir development is in carbonates comprising a number of distinct types. Fracture porosity may be present in all carbonate types, and secondary inter granular porosity occurs in dolomitised limestones. Leaching has caused the development of the most significant porosity and enhances any other porositytype present.
Some of the characteristics of the Blina Field are described in this paper.
