If you believe that, provided a certain threshold has been reached in the thermal history of a play, it will be mature for hydrocarbons, Dr. Powell will challenge your thinking on that. Hydrocarbon maturation, as a function of thermal history, depends very much on the type of organic matter available. Other factors such as the environment of deposition and biogenic degradation also have a role in determining whether a play is likely to be successful.
