About PESA

PESA is a non-profit association of individuals involved in the energy geosciences industry.

The purpose and objectives of PESA are:

  • to promote professional and technical aspects of the energy geoscience industry throughout Australia by providing a medium for gathering interested individuals;
  • to present views and discuss technical and professional matters relating to the energy geosciences industry;
  • to foster and provide continuing education for the benefit of members; and
  • to encourage and maintain a high standard of professional conduct on the part of its members.

General Information

PESA is governed by a Federal Board which is designed to assist local branches of the Society throughout Australia.  Current branches are located in Queensland, NSW/ACT, Victoria, SA/NT and WA.  The Board seeks to promote the objectives of the Society.

Activities

PESA’s main activities include the organisation of monthly technical meetings, ad hoc continuing education courses, field trips and social activities in each of the branches. 

PESA publishes a quarterly magazine, PESA News, and holds various conferences such as the Australian Exploration Geoscience Conference (AEGC), Central Australian Basins Symposium (CABS), Eastern Australian Basins Symposium (EABS) and Western Australian Basins Symposium (WABS), to keep members updated.

PESA seeks to support students coming into the energy geoscience industry by awarding a number of scholarships to University students and supporting the teaching of earth science at high school.

Membership

PESA’s current membership is over 1,000 members spread across Australia affiliated with the various branches. Overseas members are associated with individual State Branches of their choice.
