2025 Acreage Release in the Polda and Otway Basins, SA
Guest Speaker(s): Dr. Chris Cubitt
Dr Chris Cubitt graduated from the University of Adelaide with a PhD in diagenesis and sedimentology. He has more than twenty five years of industry experience in reservoir and regional geology working basins worldwide. Chris has given public and inhouse industry courses on GDE-based play analysis, rock typing (drill cuttings) and given numerous core workshops including most recently, for APPEA and PESA SA/NT, on cores in the Cooper and Otway Basins. In 2021 he joined Geoscience Australia’s offshore Otway team as a Senior Basin Analyst and in early 2023 started with South Australia’s Department for Energy and Mining (DEM) as the Manager for Energy Resources. Chris is an author of more than 20 publications, is a member PESA, IAS and the EAGE.
Abstract:
A key motivation for the South Australian 2025 acreage release is the looming shortfall in energy supply in the southeast Australian market. To facilitate the discovery and production of more gas, the South Australian Department for Energy and Mining (SADEM) is currently offering prospective acreage in a competitive bid process in two basins (Polda and Otway) across the state.
