On Thursday, 17th October 2024, PESA WA hosted a well-attended technical luncheon at the Parmelia Hilton in Perth. Over 50 industry professionals gathered to hear Neil Young, Managing Director of Elixir Energy, deliver an insightful presentation titled “A New Play is Being Proven in Queensland’s Taroom Trough”.
Neil Young’s presentation focused on the Grandis Project, Elixir Energy’s groundbreaking initiative in the Taroom Trough — a promising unconventional gas, play. Located in the Southern Bowen Basin, the Taroom Trough holds immense potential to supply gas to both East Coast and international markets. Young highlighted the unique geological characteristics of the region, which sets it apart from other gas basins, and discussed the successful results achieved by Elixir’s Daydream-2 well, which has unlocked significant tight gas resources.
The audience was particularly engaged with Elixir’s progress in proving the Basin- Centered Gas (BCG) play in the Taroom Trough, including the achievement of commercial gas flows from deep coals, a major milestone for Australian unconventional gas. The project is strategically positioned near the Wallumbilla gas hub.
hub, reducing pipeline costs and making it attractive for investment by large oil and gas companies.
This event provided an excellent platform for knowledge-sharing within the petroleum exploration community and highlighted Elixir’s role in unlocking one of Australia’s last substantial onshore gas resources. The enthusiasm in the room reflected the excitement around the future potential of the Taroom Trough for the energy sector.
PESA WA would like to extend a sincere thank you to Neil Young and Elixir Energy for the presentation, as well as to all the participants for making the event a success.
We look forward to hosting future luncheons and fostering more discussions on the latest industry developments.
As usual patrons were much stimulated with a lot to consider over Neil Young’s presentation.
