CCS Potential in the South-West of Western Australia – The South West Hub Project
Presented by Sandeep Sharma and Dominique Van Gent (Carbon Projects)
Abstract
The SW Hub project area of interest (AOI) is located in the Harvey Shire around 120 km south west of Perth. The project has been developed by the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) using industry standard practices and a stage gated development strategy over 10 years. Funding was through the Commonwealth Government Flagship Program and the State Government of WA. Research was supported by Australian National Low Emissions Coal Research & Development Ltd (ANLEC R&D). New 2D and 3D seismic has been acquired and 4 wells drilled to determine the viability of CO2 storage in the southern Perth Basin. Modelling results are encouraging and suggest that the AOI can safely support a minimum of 1-3 million tpa injection with fewer than 10 wells for 30 years. Additional appraisal is recommended to address the defined uncertainties and a potential work programs for the same have been developed.
