The Use of Facies-Based Inversion in Pre-Stack Seismic Data Conditioning QC and as a Basis For Reservoir Property Prediction (Carnarvon Basin Example)
Presented by Dave Goulding (Sharp Reflections Ltd)
Abstract
Various methods of pre-stack seismic inversion have been extensively used in the oil and gas industry over the last few decades to derive elastic rock properties (Vp, Vs & RhoB) from reflectivity data, on which interpretations of subsurface lithology and fluid characteristics have been based. Facies-based inversion differs from most traditional approaches in that the seismic data are inverted directly to litho-fluid classes (LFCs)as primary outputs in a single step, the elastic rock properties for which are simultaneously estimated. This presentation will highlight the ways in which this type of inversion can be used to objectively QC the conditioning of migrated pre-stack gathers for use in QI, derive insights into litho-fluid class probabilities in a high impact exploration setting and also act as the basis for reservoir property prediction.
