Abstract:
The southwest Yilgarn Craton, in Western Australia is one of the most seismogenic areas of mainland Australia. There are many small earthquakes happening daily and the occasional larger earthquake such as the destructive Meckering (M6.6) earthquake of 1968 and Cadoux (M6.1) earthquake of 1979. The Australia National Seismograph Network (ANSN) only has three permanent monitoring stations in the northern part of this region: Ballidu (BLDU), Morawa (MORW) and Kellerberrin (KLBR), which all lie approximately on a N–S oriented line which is not optimal for locating events within this area.
