Abstract:
The core we were lucky enough to be able to use as awards for the best papers and thanks for our keynotes is from the Mount Morgan Mine in Queensland, south of Rockhampton. The Au-Cu ore deposit is part of the Middle Devonian Capella Creek Group. The mine commenced operation in 1882, and closed in 1981, having produced over 7,500,000 oz. of gold and 360,000 metric tons of copper with an average recovered grad of 4.75g/metric ton Au and 0.72% Cu. It has been Australia’s largest single-lode gold ore body and is the fourth largest gold-producing area after Kalgoorlie, Bendigo and Ballarat.
