Abstract:
It is now widely understood and accepted that coal has will continue to form part of the world's future energy mix and there is also a growing acceptance that carbon dioxide capture and storage (CCS) must be applied for coal-based technologies to be acceptable for the future. Coal is the primary fuel used for power generation in Australia, and is therefore responsible for significant carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Decreasing CO2 emissions from major stationary sources is firmly on the Australian agenda, and CCS is seen as a vital part of the national mitigation portfolio.
