Australian Resources and Energy Group AMMA has congratulated its former longstanding President Richard Owen for being awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for his services to business in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
Upon his retirement late last year, Mr Owen had served ExxonMobil for more than 37 years. During his career he held senior executive positions across Australia, the USA, Germany and Indonesia, including as Chairman of ExxonMobil Australia from 2013-2019.
Mr Owen also served on the AMMA Board from 2015-2020, including as President from 2017-2020.
“AMMA welcomes recognition of Richard Owen’s contribution to Australia’s resources and energy sector across nearly four decades,” Steve Knott AM, Chief Executive of AMMA, said.
“Richard was highly successful in leading ExxonMobil Australia, a huge contributor to Australian employment, energy supply and royalty revenues for over 120 years. He also gave a great deal back to the industry through his involvement with AMMA and other representative groups.
“AMMA was incredibly thankful to have Mr Owen’s leadership during his five-year tenure on the AMMA Board, three of which he served as President.”
Mr Owen’s passion for the contribution of the resources and energy industry to Australia’s way of life is evident in this 2018 AMMA Centenary Video.
