Abstract:
Current interest in the oil potential of the Bass Basin is challenged by the predominance of gas accumulations at Yolla, White Ibis, Pelican and Trefoil. A signifi cant role for oil in the petroleum systems of the Eastern View Coal Measures (EVCM) is indicated by oil produced on well testing in Yolla-1 and shows in Cormorant-1, Flinders-1, King-1 and Tilana-1. Information about the distribution of palaeo-oil accumulations and how they relate to known gas accumulations is presented and this contributes knowledge that helps to manage the exploration risk associated with fluid type in prospects.
