PESA WA: Technical lunch talk – 20 October

WA

Presented by Said AmiriBesheli, KUFPEC. Time-lapse (4D) seismic monitoring technology can provide new insights and information about the dynamic behaviour of producing oil and gas fields. 4D seismic is actively used to determine drained versus undrained areas, reservoir compartmentalization, pressure changes and reservoir fluid movement. Implementation of 4D data for field development requires an iterative inter-disciplinary interpretation workflow, where seismic feasibility modelling and field pressure and production data are integrated with history-matched reservoir simulation models.

PESA WA Early Nov Evening talk: Challenging Land Seismic Surveys

WA

Dr Claudio Strobbia will discuss the challenges associated with land seismic surveys, from design to implementation to imaging.

Claudio will present some novel and innovative approaches to these challenges and demonstrate it is possible to design 3D surveys that result in usable images whilst at the same time maintaining a clear vision to reduce the field effort, safety exposure, costs, and the environmental impact of our seismic operations.

PESA WA: Technical lunch talk – 16 February

WA

Presented by Julie Cass, GSWA. The Ordovician interval cored in Olympic 1 is one of the best-documented cored intervals of the Nambeet Formation in the Canning Basin. Consequently, the Geological Survey of Western Australia (GSWA) entered into a collaborative core analysis agreement with the EP473 Joint Venture to acquire a suite of core plugs for stratigraphic and petroleum system testing and CO2 geosequestration evaluation.

This presentation offers an integrated interpretation of petrophysical and petrographic data acquired at Olympic 1, assessing reservoir quality in the Ordovician and the impact of acoustic properties on seismic prospecting at the Meda unconformity. Volume of clay, porosity and saturation have been calculated from wireline logs to assist in the petrophysical evaluation and for comparison with x-ray diffraction, routine and special core analysis measurements.

PESA WA April Technical lunch talk – Natural Hydrogen Systems in the Central Mid-West, USA

WA

Presented by Jeff Goodall, HyTerra. This presentation demonstrates how the targeted methodology for natural hydrogen exploration has moved from surface circular features to a more expansive subsurface geological model which supports hydrogen generation on a regional scale in localized prospective areas.
The deliberate targeting of natural hydrogen resources in the Central Midwest of the USA is underway with a rapid ramp-up of exploration activity, including drilling and well testing by multiple companies. These data will help inform and refine our understanding of natural hydrogen system/s both in the Central Midwest and in other prospective locations globally.

PESA WA June Technical lunch talk – Monitoring of the reservoir pressure & saturation changes using Extended Elastic Impedance from time lapse seismic data: Enfield Field

WA

Presented by Sergey Shevchenko. This presentation demonstrates how the Extended Elastic Impedance (EEI) concept has been used as a method for reservoir monitoring, calculating changes in pressure and saturation in a producing reservoir by applying EEI to time-lapse seismic data. The method uses time-lapse seismic difference data rotated to specific EEI χ angles which are optimised for the changes expected in a given reservoir.

PESA WA August Technical Lunch: Flexible Solutions for both CCS Measurement, Monitoring, and Verification (MMV) and Offshore Windfarm Developments

WA

Measurement, Monitoring, and Verification (MMV) are essential to Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) projects. Precise CO2 emission measurements, ongoing project performance monitoring, and independent data verification provide stakeholder confidence in the CCS system's greenhouse gas reduction, safe operation, and prompt issue resolution. Likewise, developing ground models for offshore wind turbine placement demands a comprehensive approach that addresses various geotechnical, geophysical, regulatory, and stakeholder aspects. A common element should be that any ‘baseline’ geophysical platform is built to best practice standards for both CCS and Wind projects.
