Abstract:
Profile of Victorian Players (Highlights):- Hemingway Seeks A Big Fish In Offshore Gippsland: Bass Strait Oil Company, as operator of VIC/P42, has been active for the past six months in assessing the potential of the permit through seismic interpretation and the evaluation of previous well results. The principal prospect is a large Top Latrobe Group structure called Hemingway, a 260 MMB (unrisked) oil target.
- Blackback Field Development Project: The Blackback field development has presented significant reservoir description and development planning challenges to the Esso/BHP joint-venture operations. The field is located 90 km off the coast of Victoria in Licence area (Vic/L20) and it lies over the edge of the continental shelf on a slope which runs down to 4500 metres depth in the Tasman Sea. Development will be by subsea wells, tied back to the Mackerel platform. The subsea facilities will be located on a gentle ridge adjacent to the top of the subsea Bass Canyon in a water depth of approximately 400 metres. At this depth the field is too deep for divers to work, so the subsea production facility will be assembled by remotely operated vehicles from the drill rig.
