DESCRIPTION:Geological Society Australia-SA Morialta Field Trip \n15th March 2024 \nThe SA Division of the Geological Society of Australia invite you to an afternoon of looking at the Burra Group\, the Tonian of the Adelaide Hills. In spectacular Morialta Gorge Conservation Park there is a lovely cross section through a major fold/thrust system that forms part of the western margin of the Delamerian Orogeny—a plate tectonic convulsion as the then new Pacific started to subduct. The rocks involved in this preserve beautiful evidence of the sedimentary environment in which they were deposited and reveal what the Adelaide region looked like 780 million years ago. \nThis trip is designed for everyone. No prior-knowledge of the intricacies of the Adelaide Superbasin stratigraphy will be assumed (in fact even if you have no geological knowledge you’ll get a lot out of this trip). There will be a little bit of walking (ca. 1.5 km) and it will be steep in places (please wear good shoes). The fieldtrip is planned for 2.5 hours and then we will head to a local pub for a chat and refreshment. \nLocation: Morialta Conservation Park \nTime: 2-6pm ACST \nGSA Members: Free.
