Practical Petroleum Systems Analysis
Presented by:
Andrew Murray, Murray Partners Pty Ltd.
Casey Edwards, Source Geoscience Pty. Ltd.With assistance and support of:
Zhiyong He, Zetaware Inc.
Overview:
This 2.5 day course is an introduction to petroleum systems analysis (PSA) as applied to the charge risk element of exploration. It consists of two components:
• An introduction (2 hours lecture plus discussion format) to practical petroleum systems analysis: This will describe the things that are most important in assessing exploration charge risk and highlight some common areas of focus which are actually not that important.
• Two days of “hands-on” instruction (by Source Geoscience) with the Zetaware tools (Kinex source rock calculator, Genesis 1D modelling and Trinity 3D map-based modelling) designed to create understanding of best practice PSA
This will be followed by a lunch time PESA talk, the cost of which is included for course participants (see separate announcement)
For the hands-on part of the course, temporary licences for the Zetaware tools will be provided and the software can be downloaded and run on any reasonably capable laptop or desktop PC.
Note, however, that this is not a software training course: the purpose is to build understanding of PSA principles, which apply no matter which software is used.
The materials used in this course consists of excerpts from professional PPSA courses delivered to 250+ geoscientists in companies, government and academic institutions around the world since 2016. In partnership with PESA we are pleased to present this to a broad audience, including geoscientists currently not working or working on reduced hours due to the pandemic-related downturn.
The 2 day hands on training will teach the application of the fundamental principals of Petroleum Systems Analysis using the Zetaware modelling software, following on from the introductory lecture.
Course Modules will include:
- 1D models and map based, multi-1D modelling
- Inputs to a 1D model: lithosphere and basin thermal regime, uplift and erosion, lithology inputs, sea level curves
- The importance of calibration and projecting thermal history from well locations into kitchens
- How to build a 1D model
- Source rocks in 1D modelling
- Recap – what is a map based model?
- Building a map based model
- Source rocks in map based modelling
- Maturity mapping
- Discussion, Q&A, tips and tricks
