Thursday, 13 December, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 5:00 pmFree
Guest Speaker: Ian Cockerill
Ian will join the ever-growing cast of people who have been asked to present at the PESA Christmas lunch only to be labelled after as ‘the chap who did the PESA Xmas talk that year. It was okay, but not as good as when Ian Longley did it’. See the YouTube video here showing how the committee decided on Ian Ian has provided previous PESA lunch presentations on Black Swan Theory and North American Unconventional Plays. From previous trips to the PESA podium Ian has been described by the PESA WA President as ‘not funny, but quite an engaging presenter’. Ian has worked in both conventional and unconventional exploration plays all over the world. He is currently Head of Geoscience at RISC.

The 12 Plays of Christmas. Celebrating Australian exploration success
Come raise a glass as we toast the spectacular exploration successes we’ve seen in Australia in recent years. We’ll tour through our vast under-explored continent stopping off to visit 12 different plays. Some of the old ones. Some of the new ones. Some of the pretty ones. Some of the not-so-pretty ones.
We’ll look at Australian plays in the context of global exploration success and trends over the last few years before taking our whirlwind trip around 12 of Australia’s most important historic and new hydrocarbon plays. Australia has punched above its weight in developing some great exploration stories during these last few years of suppressed exploration activity. Let’s celebrate that. And let’s look at where we can continue to build on that exploration success.
Oil is back (dare I say it). The East Coast is crying out for Gas. Exploration is no longer a frowned upon word! Australia still has some great plays out there ready to be tested and our geology, and the opportunities it throws up, offer something for everyone. Mesoproterozoic to Cainozoic. Onshore to offshore. Carbonates to Clastics. Unconventional to Deepwater.
We’ll keep it light hearted with the odd Christmas present for questions pitched by Santa during the presentation kindly donated by Spectrum, DUG, TGS, and RISC.
