Application of a Shale Evaluation Workflow in the Velkerri Fm, Beetaloo Basin
Presented by Stuart Munday
Maximizing the use of drill cuttings is critical in the understanding and commercialization of unconventional plays. Operating in a number of North American shale plays. Chemostrat has developed a workflow to derive mineralogy, TOC, bulk and matrix density curves, by application of proven desktop analytical techniques on well cuttings. By integrating the results, it’s then possible to derive porosity, compressional and shear sonic curves as well as mechanical rock properties. This webinar will present the results of applying this workflow to the Velkerri Formation as intersected in the Origin Amungee NW-1 well, Beetaloo Basin, the first time this has been attempted in Australia. In this case it’s possible to calibrate and ground-truth the results to XRD, TOC, wireline curves and shale rock property data available for the well. Utilising this data, it’s then possible to describe the characteristics of the primary source intervals and compare them to global shale play examples.
