DESCRIPTION:PESA QLD June Luncheon\n\nGeological structures and aquifer connectivity in the Great Artesian Basin and underlying Permian-Triassic basins: insights from airborne electromagnetic surveys\, hydrochemistry and environmental tracers at Narrabri\, NSW\nPresented by: Dr Matthias Raiber\n(Principal Research Scientist at CSIRO)\n  \nAbstract: \nIn the Narrabri region\, understanding connectivity between coal seam gas (CSG) reservoirs and overlying aquifers is important for assessing potential groundwater impacts and addressing community concerns\, given that the Gunnedah Basin\, which hosts the coal seams\, underlies key Great Artesian Basin (GAB) units such as the Pilliga Sandstone. \nThis study applies an integrated workflow combining airborne electromagnetics (SkyTEM)\, seismic interpretation\, K/Ar dating of igneous intrusions\, and hydrochemical and environmental tracer datasets (including noble gases and groundwater age tracers). The SkyTEM survey (~2\,765 line km; >60 flight lines) provides high-resolution constraints on subsurface architecture\, enabling mapping of faults\, intrusions\, and key stratigraphic boundaries to ~400 m depth. \nAEM results and K/Ar ages of intrusive activity were integrated with seismic and geological data to develop conceptual hydrogeological models identifying potential connectivity pathways. Hydrochemical and tracer data were then used to test for evidence of hydraulic connection across formations and basins\, allowing structural interpretations to be evaluated against groundwater signatures. \nResults indicate that geological structures are widespread\, but their hydraulic significance and therefore their potential influence on connectivity varies across the study area. \nThe presentation focuses on the Narrabri Gas Project area while also addressing broader GAB connectivity questions. DESCRIPTION:PESA WA is excited to invite you to our second Core Values Session for 2026 on Friday 26 June at the Perth Core Library:\nHarvey Field Cores\nPresented by Cedric Griffiths (StrataMod Pty Ltd)\n\nThe cores will be used to re-examine the assumptions behind the CSIRO 2011/12 Sedsim forward stratigraphic model of Permian/Early Triassic sediment depositional environment which was run prior to obtaining the Harvey-1 well results. \nPrior to the drilling of Harvey-1 Schlumberger had developed a depositional concept model that assumed most of the sediment being transported westwards from the Darling Scarp in the form of alluvial fans. \nThe Sedsim model had most of the sediment being provided by a large river system from the south\, sourced from Antarctic mountain sources prior to break-up\, with minor input from the eastern fault block after “Tectonic and Stratigraphic History of the Perth Basin\, Norvick\, M.S. DESCRIPTION:Petroleum Geoscience and the Energy Transition: A Personal Historical Perspective and Predictions for the Future \nAn historical perspective on important advances that Dr Peter Moore has been witness to\, and continuation of the story into the future around the emergence of non-fossil-fuel energy sources and the likely ongoing roles of geoscientists. \nThe petroleum industry was technologically advanced by the mid 1900s\, but a number of developments over the last half century stand out in the areas of seismic\, sequence stratigraphy\, assessment technologies\, deepwater plays\, drilling\, offshore developments\, CSG and shale\, which will be discussed\, including from a personal perspective. These developments have served to maintain the competitiveness of the petroleum industry and have satisfied an increasing demand over time. \nHowever\, a key question for the industry is its future role in the evolving energy transition. Analysis is difficult because there are multiple competing narratives and strong vested interests. \nToday we sit at a pivot point\, with a growing divergence of possible energy futures\, depending on how the world balances economic growth\, energy poverty\, geopolitics\, and great power competition against emissions reduction\, fossil fuel elimination and climate change concerns. \nIn the decade since the Paris agreement and despite significant progress\, the 1.5oC goal is lost and fossil fuel’s contribution to energy consumption remains at 80%. \nWhile both sides (fossil fuel supporters and renewable proponents) argue their case\, the next 15 years at least is becoming clearer – a US/China energy and manufacturing divide\, huge growth of renewables but matched by overall energy growth\, the emergence of nuclear\, and the persistence of petroleum\, especially gas. \nDespite trillions of dollars spent on the energy transition\, we have underestimated the difficulty in speedily transitioning the world’s energy and industrial infrastructure\, and have underestimated global growth\, including overall energy consumption. This can be seen by comparing predictions and model outcomes published over the last decade. \nFor today’s petroleum geoscientists\, technology and jobs will continue to evolve while new areas are likely to include advanced geothermal\, CCS\, and potentially natural hydrogen. As fields decline and new developments and discoveries become smaller\, more effort and technology is required from petroleum companies and individuals to deliver the energy the world still demands.

DESCRIPTION:D3 Energy is a natural gas and helium developer listed on the Australian Securities Exchange on 13 May 2024. \nIts cornerstone asset is Exploration Right ER315 in South Africa’s Free State Province\, a major onshore permit covering approximately 811 km²\, and situated immediately east of Renergen Limited’s producing Virginia Gas Project. \nInitial drilling across ER315 has delivered world-class helium concentrations exceeding 5%\, confirming the Company’s geological model and establishing the region as a globally significant helium province. \nThis exploration success has since been reinforced by substantial regulatory and technical progress. The Company has completed a maiden reserve certification over part of ER315\, defining 1P reserves of 7.21 BCF and supporting its Production Right Application\, which has now been formally accepted by South Africa’s Petroleum Agency (PASA). \nIn addition to ER315\, D3 holds multiple permits in South Africa\, including ER386\, TCP 273\, ER391\, ER392 and ER393 bringing its total landholding in the region to just under 2000 km². These assets are defined by their low-cost nature and high prospectivity\, making exploration and development economically competitive. \nIn June 2025\, D3 Energy expanded into Australia\, securing PEL 121 and PEL 122 in the Arckaringa Basin\, South Australia. These permits\, covering ~5\,865 km²\, mark a strategic entry into a frontier basin with growing interest in helium and clean hydrogen exploration. Since acquisition\, the Company has also commenced farm-out discussions for the Hydrohelix prospect to support future drilling activity. \nD3 Energy now operates in two geographies\, South Africa and Australia\, with a dual-hemisphere portfolio targeting critical energy and industrial gases. \nIn South Africa\, the Company’s work is vital in a region facing severe energy shortages.
