SUMMARY:PESA ACT/NSW April Lunch
DESCRIPTION:PESA NSW Meeting Tuesday April 9\nWe do not have unfortunately have a speaker for our next scheduled meeting on Tuesday\nApril 9th . Rather than cancel our meeting your executive has decided to have a discussion\nabout the content of the recently widely circulated short movie/video Climate The Movie (The\nReal Truth) which can be seen on \nhttps://eds6.mailcamp.nl/url.phpsubid=vew0x395z1j7i14&nstatid=9gj40j711y&info=n9w3d0v&L=17131&F=H \nThe movie is unusual in that it summarises a sceptical view of climate change accepting that\,\nyes\, the earth is warming but not as much as claimed and is a natural result of emerging from\na “mini-ice-age”. The very distinguished speakers also doubt the effect of carbon dioxide in\nthe observed warming and stress that current levels are unusually low compared to past\ngeological ages\, dropping to dangerously low levels during the last Ice age. \nOne of the frustrating things I find is the lack of (readily accessible) basic data to support the\nmany assertions in this and other presentations on the subject. Do the famous Greenland ice\ncores really show temperature rise preceding a rise in atmospheric CO2? Is the level of the\nPacific Ocean really rising? Original references and copies\, if possible\, would be welcome.\nAnyway please come to what I hope will be an interesting and\, I hope\, worthwhile experiment.\nLooking forward to seeing you there.

SUMMARY:PESA WA April Technical Lunch: From Liability to Asset - The Role of Mature Wells in Carbon Capture and Storage and the REX-CO2 well screening tool
DESCRIPTION:Hosted with thanks to our Platinum sponsor SLB: \n  \n \nGold Sponsors IKON Science and DUG: \n       \n  \nand Silver Sponsors Delft and Qeye: \n             \nPESA WA invites you to our technical luncheon on Thursday 18th April.\nFrom Liability to Asset: The Role of Mature Wells in Carbon Capture and Storage and the REX-CO2 well screening tool \nPresented by Siddiq Mahyildin (IKON Science – Technical Sales Geoscientist) \n\nThe UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) boasts significant CO₂ storage potential\, which is important in the context of the UK’s commitment towards Net Zero emissions targets. Since many of the basins in the UKCS are regarded as mature there is now an increasing emphasis towards plug and abandonment rather than further exploration. In this webinar\, we will explore the opportunity that exists to re-purpose near end-of-life wells and fields for use in CO₂ storage operations. Re-use as an alternative to plugging and abandonment could potentially result in significant cost savings. \nIkon Science completed the presented work with BGS for the Re-Using Existing wells for CO₂ storage operations project (REX-CO₂)\, which is an R&D initiative funded through Accelerating CCS Technologies (ACT) programme. The project aims to evaluate potential for re-purposing existing oil and gas wells that penetrate prospective CO₂ storage reservoirs. A screening methodology and software tool has been developed\, and is applied to two UKCS case studies; a depleted gas field and a saline aquifer structure. Determinations of subsurface pore pressure\, fracture pressure and seal capacity are integral to the analysis. The procedure for acquisition of regional data\, determination of production and depletion impacts\, and estimation of seal capacity are considered along with considerations for partial well abandonment. Some challenges for re-use assessments of wells on the UKCS will also be highlighted. Special thanks to John Williams (British Geological Survey). \n  \nTicket Prices: \nMember (Early Bird): $69.00 \nConcession Member [Retired\, Graduate or Hardship] (Early Bird): $59.00 \nStudent Member (Early Bird): $39.00 \nNon-Member: $99.00 \nMember (Non-Early Bird): $79.00 \nEarly bird pricing ends Thursday (1 week prior) at 5pm (AWST). All ticket sales close at 5pm Tuesday (2 days prior). \n

SUMMARY:PESA SA/NT April Luncheon- Beach Energy’s 2022 Otway Basin drilling campaign
DESCRIPTION:Beach Energy’s 2022 Otway Basin drilling campaign\nJosh Sage\, Beach Energy \n  \nAbstract\n\nFollowing the transformational acquisition of Lattice Energy 2017\, Beach Energy materially increased its footprint in the Otway Basin\, picking up several near shore and offshore tenements\, including two producing offshore gas fields\, Geographe and Thylacine\, as well as several promising exploration targets. \nIn 2022\, to capitalise on the potential of these new assets\, Beach Energy completed the largest exploration and development campaign in the Offshore Otway basin’s history. The successful campaign included one new gas discovery at the Artisan Field and six successful development wells in the Geographe and Thylacine fields. \nAgainst the challenging backdrop of the global COVID-19 pandemic\, and with over 820\,000 continuous operational hours through the pandemic\, the campaign concluded 18 months after commencement with some very notable achievements. These include\, but are certainly not limited to\, the first offshore ERD well drilled by Beach\, the longest horizontal well drilled in the Otway Basin (3.5 km lateral section in Thylacine North 2) and the longest horizontal campaign in the Otway Basin (8.1 km total lateral section from three horizontal wells). \nThis presentation will be a recap of the 2021-2022 Offshore Otway project; the goals\, the execution\, the challenges along the way\, and some of the great & more interesting results. \n\n  \n  \nEvent Details:\nThursday\,  Thursday 18th April 2024\nLuncheon: 12 pm for a 12:30 pm start \nPlace: Ayer’s House\, 288 North Tce\, Adelaide \nIncludes a 2-course lunch and drinks \nBookings close 1 pm Monday\, 15th April 2024 \nAny late bookings will incur an additional $20 fee. Strictly no walk-ins.

SUMMARY:PESA QLD Lunch: 18th April – Seismic Characterisation of Shallow Gas in the Cooper-Eromanga Basin
DESCRIPTION:This month’s PESA QLD technical lunch features Satya Mishra from Santos presenting: \n“Seismic Characterisation of Shallow Gas in the Cooper-Eromanga Basin”\nThe Technical Lunch will be held at the Brisbane Hilton Hotel\, in Room 82. \nFor detailed directions\, see explanation below. \n\n\n\nPresentation:\nSeismic Characterisation of Shallow Gas in the Cooper-Eromanga Basin\n\n\nVenue:\nHilton Hotel Brisbane\, 190 Elizabeth Street\, Brisbane QLD 4000\nRoom 82 (NOTE CHANGE FROM USUAL ROOM)\n(Detailed directions below)\n\n\nDate & Time:\nThursday\, 18th April 12:15 PM\n\n\n\n  \nPresentation Abstract: \nSeismic Characterisation of Shallow Gas in the Cooper-Eromanga Basin \nThe talk focuses on shallow-gas in the Cooper-Eromanga basin. Cooper has been a prolific gas basin for over 60 years and the overlying Eromanga basin has been predominantly Oil saturated. Thus gas discoveries in the Eromanga basin are generally termed as “shallow-gas”. The talk will look into various seismic characterisation methods that help in delineating the shallow-gas fields. In the process we will cover some of the structural and the stratigraphical seismic attribute methods that have been useful in field delineation. We will also look into the fluid characterisation methods e.g. AVO and Fluid substitution. We would venture into some in-land canyons in our own backyard and understand the unique play model associated with it. \n  \n\nTickets for the Technical Luncheon can be purchased below: \nTicket sales extended to Wednesday\, 17 April 12:00 PM – To avoid disappointment please register before that date and time. \n\n\n\n\nStandard Ticket Price\n\n\n\n\nPESA Members – $55\nNon-Members – $75\nStudent / Retired Members – $30\n\n\n\n\n\nThe venue location can be accessed by two means: \n1) Entry from Queen Street Mall\nTake the lifts to Level 6\, and walk to the guest lifts located in the centre of the main atrium and take the lift to Level 8.
