SUMMARY:PESA ACT/NSW Melbourne Cup Lunch
DESCRIPTION:Melbourne Cup and oil price prediction lunch\nJoin us in watching the race that stops the nation! A Calcutta and raffle will be held followed by a presentation on future oil price trends. See you there! \nMELBOURNE CUP SWEEP AND CALCUTTA PROCESS \nDue to the smaller groups of attendees and in an effort to increase interest in the Calcutta aspects of our price Prediction Day/Melbourne Cup our auctioneer\, Andy Rigg and the team have come up with an amended set of Rules to make the day more competitive and fun. The new rules of the front end of the Calcutta are as follows: \nEvery person registered and attending on the day of the meeting (including speakers) receives an option to purchase a ticket in the PESA Melbourne Cup (Sweep);\nEvery person above then has the choice to either exercise the option and purchase a ticket in the sweep for $40 or sell the option to the highest bidder\, who must then exercise the option (i.e. and pay the $40 to the auction team);\nThe price paid to buy an option goes to the original option holder;\nThe $40 goes to auction team as a pot for the race to the distributed between first\, second and third horses;\nWith 24 horses the pot should be $960;\nThe names of the persons exercising the options will be inserted into a hat and then drawn against horses drawn out of another hat;\n1/ If the number of exercised options is equal to the number of starters in the Melbourne Cup\, then every exercised option will receive a horse in the sweep;\n2/ If the number of exercised options is less than the number of starters\, then all the names of the registered persons attending will go back into the draw for the remaining horses;\n3/ If the number of exercised options is greater than the number of starters\, then not all exercised option owners will receive a horse in the sweep;\nOnce the owners of all the horses in the field are known\, then the call of the card and the normal Calcutta bidding process can begin as usual based on the declared pot. \nBest advice is to bring along some cash (no credit card facilities available in the Adams Room)\, a willingness to have a lot of fun and front up at the Masonic Club (also known as the Castlereagh Boutique Hotel) on Tuesday 7 November 2023 and get together with all your old friends for a great days entertainment.

SUMMARY:Sedimentary Evolution of a South Australian Cambrian Rift
DESCRIPTION:PESA SA Field Trip\nSedimentary Evolution of a South Australian Cambrian Rift\nFrom a carbonate ramp to siliciclastic fluvio-deltaics in a tectonically active Cambrian rift. How did the Delamerian clastic basin fill evolve and why? \nSaturday 11th and Sunday 12th November 2023 \nAn opportunity to investigate the Cambrian evolution of South Australia through the spectacular coastal exposures in the Fleurieu peninsula. \nRhodri Johns and Elinor Alexander will lead the field trip. \nThe full excursion is two days. Participants will have the option of participating in either or both days. \nThe first day will be spent examining the carbonate ramp deposits of the Sellick Hill Formation and the clastic turbidites of the Carrickalinga Head Formation at Myponga and Carrickalinga. Here signs of the early evolution of the Delamerian rift will be viewed. \nThe second day will be spent viewing the spectacular outcrops of The Fishery Beach section on the south coast near Cape Jervis. Here a magnificently exposed prograding clastic sequence\, including Carrickalinga Head turbidites and the shallow marine deltaics of the Backstairs Passage Formation\, are overlain by the incised valley fill turbidites of the Cooalinga Member. \n  \n\nSaturday\, November 11th.\n\nSelf-drive to meet at the south Myponga Beach car park for a 10am start. \nOnce we have examined Sellick Hill Formation exposures\, it’s a short drive to Carrickalinga Head to spend more time looking at the turbidite facies\, to finish at about 4. \nAttendees may wish to partake of a cleansing ale at Fork Tree Brewery\, Carrickalinga\, on the way back to Adelaide – a separate purchase. \n  \nYou may also wish to make a weekend of it on the beautiful Fleurieu Peninsula – organizing your accommodation on Saturday 11th. \n  \n\nSunday\, November 12th.\n\nSelf-drive to meet at the Fishery Beach car park – 5km south of Cape Jervis\, for a 10am start. \nWe will then walk along the coastal sections to finish at about 3. \nAttendees may wish to partake of a cleansing ale at Kick Back Brewing\, Aldinga\, on the way back to Adelaide – a separate purchase. \n  \nPESA Members: $20 per day. Non-Members:  $30 per day. Students (limited places): no charge \n  \nSelf-drive field trip – carpooling encouraged. BYO lunch. \n  \nRegistrations are limited. \n  \nContact Alex Ross 0434 569 936 alexross@fastmail.fm \n  \nBookings close 5 pm Monday 6th November 2023

SUMMARY:PESA SA/NT November Technical Luncheon Coorikiana Sandstone Play\, Cooper Basin region
DESCRIPTION:Coorikiana Sandstone Play\, Cooper Basin region\nCarmine Grasso \nSouth Australia’s Department for Energy and Mining (DEM) \n  \nAbstract\n\nPetroleum exploration of the Cooper/Eromanga basin commenced in 1954 with the granting of an exploration licence to Santos\, the dominant focus for operators being gas resources of the deeper Permian reservoirs of the Cooper Basin\, which are overlain by the younger shallower Eromanga Basin. However\, a recent industry focus to specifically target the shallower reservoirs\, viz.\, Coorikiana Sandstone of the Eromanga Basin\, has yielded rewarding outcomes\, thus adding to the Cooper/Eromanga basin reputation as Australia’s most prolific onshore oil and gas basin. \nThe early Cretaceous Coorikiana Sandstone has been proven to be a bona fide exploration\, appraisal and development target in the South Australian sector of the Cooper/Eromanga basin. This presentation of the play is aimed at providing explorers with a better understanding of the geology and potential importance of these regressive marine shoreface sandstone reservoirs. Recent activity in the South Australian portion of the Cooper/Eromanga basin has proven successful via low-cost shallow drilling campaigns\, focusing on delivering additional production rate and reserves for both oil and gas. These positive results in the Coorikiana Sandstone have not only placed the spotlight on this formation as a legitimate hydrocarbon target but it has also increased our knowledge on the importance of understanding the value of shallow hydrocarbon plays in the Eromanga Basin. \n  \n\nEvent Details:\nThursday\,  November 23rd\, 2023\nLuncheon: 12 pm for a 12:30 pm start \nPlace: Ayer’s House\, 288 North Tce\, Adelaide \nIncludes a 2-course lunch and drinks \nBookings close 1 pm Monday\, 20th November\nAny late bookings will incur an additional $20 fee. Strictly no walk-ins.
