Rob Kirk has put together a series of presentations examining the various different components of a stratigraphic sequence in outcrop and in the sub-surface. Each of these talks will be given as part of a mini-workshop. Summary: This is the 2nd of Rob Kirk’s series of workshops examining the various components of a stratigraphic sequence in outcrop and in the sub-surface. This talk will venture up from the basin floor fans discussed in the first workshop to look at another difficult-to-explore region; the marine slope. Workshop 3 With Rob Kirk: Incised valleys and basal transgressive sands – from outcrop to subsurface.
Abstract: This talk is getting in to shallower water, following on from the previous deep water and slopes. We will look at fluvial incised valleys, cut in to the underlying sequence boundary and their often-associated basal transgressive marine sands. These units often contain reserves but can be relatively thin and, in developments, can have different poro-perms to the high stand deltas and fluvial.
