Others synthesised state of the art in disciplines such as sedimentology and geochemistry\, building on developments from the previous decades\, like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle falling into place; these works not only led to a more innovative approach to petroleum exploration but also laid the foundations for systematic basin analysis\, play analysis\, petroleum systems analysis\, and risk analysis – approaches that would emerge as essential tools for the petroleum industry in the 1980/90s and beyond. \nWhat were these pivotal publications\, and who were their authors?
