SUMMARY:43rd Annual PESA/SPE Golf Day
DESCRIPTION:43rd Annual PESA/SPE Golf Day\nPETROLEUM EXPLORATION SOCIETY/SOCIETY OF PETROLEUM ENGINEERS – SA BRANCHES \nFriday 15th of March\, 2024 \nWest Lakes Golf Club \n  \nThis year marks the 43rd anniversary of PESA/SPE Golf Day. This event is done annually in support of the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Over the last 23 years\, it has raised more than $428\,000 for this most worthy cause. \nSo we are pleased to invite you to the 2024 PESA/SPE Golf Tournament on Friday\, 15th of March at the West Lakes Golf Club. All aspiring golfers are welcome to play\, irrespective of their handicap and golf skills. And as always\, all money raised will go straight to the Royal Flying Doctor Service. \nWe look forward to seeing you there! \nRegistration and Activities\nTo register for this event\, download the flyer below (PDF) which includes the registration form. Complete the form and email it to the address and contact person indicated before March 8\, 2024. \nOn Golf Day (March 15)\, players must register with the starters before 9.30 a.m.\, with players moving onto the course at 10:00 a.m. \nDinner and presentations will be held in the Club House at approximately 6.00 p.m. Only those players attending the dinner are eligible to win prizes. \nBreakfast\, lunch and light refreshments will be provided whilst negotiating on-course obstacles. The course is well “watered” and most golfing requirements will be found in the “grab” bags. \nAdelaide PESA/SPE Golf Tournament will be played as an Ambrose competition. \nReminders:\n\nWest Lakes Golf Club is a private Golf Club. Thus\, acceptable dress\, including collared shirts\, is a club requirement on the course.  Attire such as jeans\, tracksuits and shorts are not acceptable.  (A more detailed description of dress standards and other Club regulations are in the downloadable flyer below.)\nBuggies and clubs can be hired from the Golf Course ONLY through ProShop: Chris Holliday and his team\, on (08) 8268 3054 or via email westlakes@oncoursegolf.com.au.\nPLEASE BOOK EARLY. Only limited number of buggies and clubs are available.\nTo assist the Bookies on the Golf Day\, please be prepared and carry coins or small notes.

SUMMARY:GSA-SA Morialta Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:Geological Society Australia-SA Morialta Field Trip \n15th March 2024 \nThe SA Division of the Geological Society of Australia invite you to an afternoon of looking at the Burra Group\, the Tonian of the Adelaide Hills. In spectacular Morialta Gorge Conservation Park there is a lovely cross section through a major fold/thrust system that forms part of the western margin of the Delamerian Orogeny—a plate tectonic convulsion as the then new Pacific started to subduct. The rocks involved in this preserve beautiful evidence of the sedimentary environment in which they were deposited and reveal what the Adelaide region looked like 780 million years ago. \nThis trip is designed for everyone. No prior-knowledge of the intricacies of the Adelaide Superbasin stratigraphy will be assumed (in fact even if you have no geological knowledge you’ll get a lot out of this trip). There will be a little bit of walking (ca. 1.5 km) and it will be steep in places (please wear good shoes). The fieldtrip is planned for 2.5 hours and then we will head to a local pub for a chat and refreshment. \nLocation: Morialta Conservation Park \nTime: 2-6pm ACST \nGSA Members: Free. Non-members $20 plus booking fee. \nRegister with the GSA: Click here

SUMMARY:PESA SA/NT March Luncheon- Hydrogen Gas Storage Prospects in South Australian Petroleum Basins
DESCRIPTION:Hydrogen Gas Storage Prospects in South Australian Petroleum Basins\nMarch Bunch\,University of Adelaide \n  \nAbstract\n\nSouth Australia hosts two petroleum production basins that are also expected to play a role in Geological Carbon Sequestration (GCS).  Each hosts CO2 disposal operations at differing scales.  Previous studies have demonstrated sealing capacities bounding structural closures to viable reservoir beneath the threshold depth for sustaining supercritical CO2 sufficient to accommodate millions of tonnes of CO2 annually.  Another prospective use for these reservoir systems has emerged: Underground Hydrogen Storage (UHS).  UHS will provide a secure\, scalable way to accommodate excess hydrogen production and fill temporary supply shortfall\, thereby stabilising the price of energy as the transition unfolds.  Hydrogen is a gas under all viable subsurface conditions so is invasive\, mobile and of low mass density.  Sealing capacity to hydrogen gas is approximately equivalent to that of methane meaning closures to natural gas fields should be viable for temporary hydrogen storage.  However\, there are other considerations such as how prone a containment system would be to hydrogen losses by degraded integrity under injection-production stress\, dissolution\, chemical reactions or microbial consumption.  This study evaluates viable UHS fairways within each basin at the helicopter-view scale.  The following factors are considered: hydrodynamic modification of closure; sealing unit thickness and capacity; a threshold depth that is both as shallow as possible but deep enough to limit microbial hydrogen consumption whilst ensuring a competitive hydrogen mass density.  When these factors are considered together\, the most prospective fairways are revealed that correspond with a subset of known petroleum field closures to proven reservoir intervals. \n\n  \n  \nEvent Details:\nThursday\,  March 21st\, 2024\nLuncheon: 12 pm for a 12:30 pm start \nPlace: Ayer’s House\, 288 North Tce\, Adelaide \nIncludes a 2-course lunch and drinks \nBookings close 1 pm Monday\, 18th March 2024 \nAny late bookings will incur an additional $20 fee. Strictly no walk-ins.
